Quiet Place
This design uses traditional materials from the Art Nouveau style, which is the architectural style that is mostly found in the parks. The shell of sandstone clinker has metal rods through which the perforated bricks can be quickly and easily assembled as well as its rotation can be changed without any problems. Initially, the bricks can be freely inserted into the rods and thus rotate 360° on them unbound. This would create an interactive element in the park, which changes its shape and thus its expression through external influences. However, the rotation of the bricks can also be fixed by inserting parts in the spaces between them. The individual parts can be planned and produced using digital fabrication, e.g. they could be made with the help of 3D printers or laser cutters. This makes it very easy to implement a desired pre-created shape. The design looks very solid and protective due to the choice of materials, which is especially important for a toilet, a very intimate place. Nevertheless, the form allows a reference to the outside through light and air through smaller openings in the facade as well as through the open light band on the ceiling. The sculptural language of the envelope can further be understood as a geometric abstraction of organic and floral ornaments from Art Nouveau. Inside, the sanitary facilities are all oriented along the plumbing shaft, creating a simple piping layout and a spatially efficient space program. In the enclosed spaces inside, metal grilles are used for protection from smaller animals as well as for privacy screens on the ceilings. The metal roof structure is supported by columns resting on the masonry. Drainage is directly to the interior into the installation shaft.
